Quality, durability, circular economy. And more. Creativity, research, experimentation and play. To design and think about the future of living, we go through these pivotal elements. Touching Materials by MoscaPartners, the title of the edition of Design Variations 2024, means this: feeling materials not only with touch, but also with the head and heart, leaving us amazed by new thinking and innovative proposals. It all starts from a new location, a former garage in Viale Gorizia 14, a historic building constructed in 1938 and completed in 1948 under the supervision of architect Marco Zanuso. “The Garage is a deliberate choice,” states curator Caterina Mosca, “that suggests unprecedented combinations, offering an updated vision of what it means to design today, returning it to its true experimental nature and ongoing quest”.

Attention to intelligent reuse of building materials and circular economy is the focus of the fit-out project signed by Park Associati, in which only heat-insulating and sound-absorbing hemp bricks supplied by Biomat are used.

At the end of the event, the entirety of the material used will be put back on the market for reuse thanks to a completely dry assembly that allows for rapid construction and de-construction.

ENTRANCE NATHALIE DU PASQUIER ARTWORK

A site specific artwork — Nathalie Du Pasquier work

This year, MoscaPartners invited artist Nathalie Du Pasquier to create a site-specific work for the garage. Upon seeing the space, Du Pasquier was inspired to conceive the artwork “Corridoio.”

These are intuitive works, harmonized by a masterful understanding of color, form and proportion. They give life to graphic worlds with a strong emotional impact. For Nathalie du Pasquier, drawing is a form of meditation, an authentic immersion in the search for the meaning of making. The French artist naturalized Italian presents Corridoio, a work composed of twelve large decorative panels (200×87 cm), printed on MEG, a versatile material designed for outdoor use, resistant to light and weather, by Abet Laminati.
